Ellie's Story: What Consistency Did For Her Hair

Ellie's Story: What Consistency Did For Her Hair

This post contains a real customer account shared for Hair Loss Awareness Month.

Ellie first noticed it in the shower. Every time she stepped out, there seemed to be more hair in the drain than the week before.

Then it was on her pillow. In her brush. And eventually, her curls didn't feel as full as they once had.

Ellie is 48, a university lecturer from Sydney.

She's not alone. Up to a third of women experience noticeable hair thinning at some point in their life.

From stress, hormones, postpartum changes, or genetics. Most don't talk about it. Ellie almost didn't either.

'I kept telling myself it was normal shedding, but I knew it wasn't. I was avoiding photos, pulling my hair back all the time."

The turning point

It was her hairdresser who raised it first, during a routine colour appointment, asking how long the shedding had been going on, and whether anything in her life had changed recently.

Hair thinning rarely has one single cause. For Ellie, it was stress after losing her mum.

The truth is, curly hair comes with its own challenges. When shedding becomes more noticeable or your curls start feeling thinner, it's worth paying attention.

Building a routine

That's why Ellie started using the Grow Your Curls Set.

After every wash with the Growth Boost Shampoo and Curly Girl Conditioner, she applied the Growth Boost Anti Breakage + Split End Remedy Spray to help protect fragile strands and reduce breakage, before styling with the Soft Curl Gel to define her curls. She followed up with Pump BioGro on her scalp to help reduce hair fall, and the Curly Girl Ultra Nourishing Mask once a week for extra strength and hydration.

"I didn't expect to notice anything for months, so I mostly forgot I was even using the routine."

Six months later, here's what Ellie had to say:

"My hairdresser was the first person to actually comment on all my new growth, I genuinely hadn't noticed. Two weeks later it was obvious every time I looked in the mirror."

What changed

Fewer strands on her pillow in the morning. Less coming away in the shower. At her next colour appointment, her hairdresser was the one who pointed it out first. She now has new growth along her part, baby hairs coming through thicker, and curls that hold their shape and length for longer.

Ellie's hair isn't "fixed." But the shedding that worried her has settled.

"It's nice to have a routine that supports growth, whilst also looking after my curls."

The Grow Your Curls Set doesn't promise an overnight transformation, but a steady difference that shows with consistent use.

"It's not that my hair is perfect now. It's that I stopped counting strands in the shower. I stopped avoiding photos. That's worth more to me than any single before-and-after picture."

If this sounds familiar Whether you're noticing more shedding than usual or your curls just never seem to get past a certain length, hair thinning is common, and it's worth talking about, even if it's not always something you can fix overnight. The earlier you support your hair, the better, and the more there is to work with.

That's what we tell clients in the chair, every day.
